Este trabalho tem como objetivo destacar a construção híbrida do romance de formação O fazedor de Velhos (2008) de Rodrigo Lacerda. Dessa forma pretende-se discutir os valores e a manutenção da literatura brasileira para jovens, verificando de qual forma esses valores estão representados no romance de formação, considerando as peculiaridades do gênero. Para tanto, serão analisados em específico os aspectos estruturais da narrativa, tendo como foco a passagem de tempo na constituição da personagem, por um viés intertextual com a literatura (...) universal. Embasado nos pressupostos críticos de Benedito Nunes (1995), Massaud Moisés (2006), Perrone-Moisés (1998), Norman Friedman (2002), visando destacar o papel do escritor contemporâneo e suas contribuições como representante da literatura brasileira juvenil moderna.Palavras-chave: Literatura brasileira contemporânea. A construção da identidade organizacional no século XXI está intrinsecamente ligada à comunicação e ao discurso, especialmente após a aceleração das transformações digitais impulsionadas pela pandemia. Este artigo explora como a identidade discursiva das organizações, particularmente startups, é formada e comunicada através de interações contínuas e discursos que moldam a percepção interna e externa da organização. A análise se baseia em teorias de autores como Albert e Whetten (1985), Brewer (1991; 1996) Charaudeau (2009), Maingueneau (2008) e Jung (2009), enfatizando a (...) importância de um self organizacional coerente para a sustentabilidade e reconhecimento no contexto corporativo. Solving poverty is a laudable public policy goal. While there are many approaches, one that has gained popularity is the conditional cash transfer that requires recipients to satisfy conditions imposed on them such as requiring regular medical checkups. Another approach, which is gaining interest is unconditional cash transfers that do not impose conditions. The question we ask in this paper is: what do these past and current attempts tell us about the implications for gender? To answer this question, we explore (...) two programs using a gendered framework: Brazil's Bolsa Familia,which is a conditional cash transfer, and Manitoba's Mincome experiment, which was an unconditional cash transfer in Canada. We then consider how this information might be used by states, particularly as it relates to ending social marginalization. Broadly, this research contributes to academic discussions of public policy, income, gender and social vulnerability. (shrink)

A complexidade crescente da rede mundial de dependências, e o tempo acelerado da mudança, ultrapassaram as capacidades, as rotinas, e a criatividade dessas estruturas, que se tinham arquitectado em tempo demorado, os Estados perderam de regra a eficácia do modelo da centralidade da direcção, e, sem grande diferença qualitativa entre poderosos e pequenos, multiplicam, por todas as áreas das competências que guardam, os centros de intervenção que se articulam em redes internacionais, sem que isso tenha necessária réplica em redes internas (...) que mantenham a corrente da informação entre todos.Pregadores da urgência da verdade no exercício da política como foi Ana Arendt, e da importância do diálogo como sustentam todos, dificilmente podem conciliar-se com o panorama desta época que se pretende que seja da informação e do saber, longe também da sabedoria que invocaram. Inverter o ritmo, isto é, regressar ao modelo de pensar antes de correr, exige uma profunda remodelação dos aparelhos diplomáticos, de modo que a coordenação volte a ser um valor reconhecido, não apenas pela filosofia de governo de cada Estado, também pela dos grandes espaços em que os Estados se articulam. Este artigo objetiva compreender a essência antropológica dos conceitos de mediação implícita e explícita, principalmente, com base nas pesquisas de Oswaldo Francisco Almeida Júnior sob um viés fenomenológico. Trata-se de uma pesquisa teórica e bibliográfica de caráter exploratório-descritivo, com uma abordagem qualitativa e procedimento metodológico baseado na construção do conhecimento científico produzido por Telma Cristiane Sasso de Lima e Regina Célia Tamaso Mioto que consubstanciam três fases de análise da pesquisa: investigação das soluções, análise explicativa e síntese integradora, tendo como (...) referencial teórico o que foi produzido por pesquisadores, como Oswaldo Francisco de Almeida Júnior, Sueli Bortolin, João Arlindo dos Santos Neto, Angela Ales Bello e Giovanni Reale. No processo de pesquisa, percebe-se a manifestação do fenômeno estudado de forma teórica pela pesquisa bibliográfica e pela prática exemplificada por meio de relato de contexto didático-pedagógico de estudo de lendas, como ação cultural que se manifesta em uma essência antropológica, pois tanto a mediação da informação, quanto a informação só possuem sua existência e a manifestação fenomenológica do seu ser em uma vivência informacional na interação de pessoas humanas, nos sujeitos envolvidos no processo da mediação da informação. O fenômeno da mediação da informação é apreendido mediante a vivência fenomenológica como um ato antropológico. O trabalho possibilitou identificar o estudo da mediação da informação a partir da análise e da incorporação de elementos da Antropologia Filosófica e da Fenomenologia, compreendendo que o centro das ações informacionais é a pessoa humana. A pesquisa poderá contribuir para o processo de ensino-aprendizagem nos campos da Ciência da Informação e da Biblioteconomia, bem como no desenvolvimento dos processos de mediação da informação para novas e futuras pesquisas. Constitutional Law has undergone many changes since post World War II and its reflex has been felt in all other legal areas. However, little attention has been given to Legal Theory after these constitutional transformations. The present study discusses multiple aspects of such implications. After presenting what is understood by neoconstitutionalism, a correlation is drawn with changes in constitutional interpretation. A new element – defeasibility – is then placed as a necessary counterpoint between deliber- ating constitutional principles and the theory (...) of norms. Only if we take defeasibility into account and understand that constitutional interpretation has undergone certain changes, one is able to grasp the important tenets of neoconstitutionalism.Resumen:El derecho constitucional ha sufrido muchos cambios después de la Segunda Guerra Mundial y sus consecuencias se han manifestado en otras áreas del derecho. Sin embargo, poca atención se le ha dado a la teoría jurídica después de estos cambios constitucionales. Este estudio investiga varios descubrimientos de estas implicaciones. Después de presentar lo que se entiende por neoconstitucionalismo, se avanza una correlación con los cambios en la interpretación constitucional. Un nuevo elemento —derrotabilidad— se presenta como una contrapartida necesaria entre la deliberación de los principios constitucionales y las enseñanzas de la teoría de las normas. Sólo a través de la derrotabilidad y el entendimiento de que la interpretación constitucional ha sufrido ciertos cambios, puede uno entender uno de los grandes postulados del neoconstitucionalismo. O processo de institucionalização da Pediatria na Bahia deu-se com a criação da cátedra na Faculdade de Medicina da Bahia. Todas as ações decisivas foram movidas pelos professores da disciplina na faculdade, criando instituições filantrópicas de assistência à saúde da infância, desenvolvendo pesquisa, divulgando conhecimento. É sobre a trajetória de um desses personagens que o presente artigo irá se debruçar. Martagão Gesteira, titular da ‘Clínica Pediátrica e Higiene Infantil’, fundador da Liga Bahiana Contra a Mortalidade Infantil e da Sociedade de (...) Two experiments compared “Red-Green” dichromats’ empirical and metacognized capacities to discriminate basic color categories and to use the corresponding basic color terms. A first experiment used a 102-related-colors set for a pointing task to identify all the stimuli that could be named with each BCT by each R-G dichromat type. In a second experiment, a group of R-G dichromats estimated their difficulty discriminating BCCs-BCTs in a verbal task. The strong coincidences between the results derived from the pointing and the verbal (...) tasks indicated that R-G dichromats have very accurate metacognition about their capacities and limitations in the use of BCTs. Multidimensional scaling solutions derived from both tasks were very similar: BCTs in R-G dichromats were properly represented in 2D MDS solutions that clearly show one chromatic dimension and one achromatic dimension. Important concordances were found between protanopes and deuteranopes. None of these dichromats showed substantial difficulty discriminating the Red-Green pair. So, to name them “R-G” dichromats is misleading considering their empirical capacities and their metacognition. Further reasons to propose the use of the alternative denomination “Brown-Green” dichromats are also discussed. We found some relevant differences between the “Brown-Green” dichromats’ empirical and self-reported difficulties using BCTs. Their metacognition can be considered a “caricature” of their practical difficulties. This caricature omits some difficulties including their problems differentiating “white” and “black” from other BCTs, while they overestimate their limitations in differentiating the most difficult pairs. Individual differences scaling analyses indicated that the metacognition regarding the use of BCTs in “Brown-Green” dichromats, especially deuteranopes, is driven slightly more by the chromatic dimension and driven slightly less by the achromatic dimension, than their practical use of BCTs. We discuss the relevance of our results in the framework of the debate between the linguistic relativity hypothesis and the universal evolution theories. (shrink)

In this article, I investigate the process of coordination between three ‘bodies’ of surgery: the patient-ensemble(s) constructed in pre-operative activities; the surgeon-body constructed with these ensembles in the operating room; and the body-world inhabited by the surgeon. This investigation is done through an ethnography of a neurosurgical clinic, with an analytical focus on the relationship between the spatial configuration of the body of the surgeon and the embodied practices of operating that this configuration demands. My argument is that coordination between (...) those three bodies is organized in the layered space into which the multiple ensembles of surgery are assembled. This relationship, I suggest, lies at the core of the power and technical expertise held by surgeons, and constitutes a challenge for explorations of other forms of articulation between subject body-worlds and the embodiment of power in subject-bodies. In _Uncanny Rest_ Alberto Moreiras offers a meditation on intellectual life under the suspension of time and conditions of isolation. Focusing on his personal day-to-day experiences of the “shelter-in-place” period during the first months of the coronavirus pandemic, Moreiras engages with the limits and possibilities of critical thought in the realm of the infrapolitical—the conditions of existence that exceed average understandings of politics and philosophy. In each dated entry he works through the process of formulating a life’s worth of thought (...) and writing while attempting to locate the nature of thought once the coordinates of everyday life have changed. Offering nothing less than a phenomenology of thinking, Moreiras shows how thought happens in and out of a life, at a certain crossroads where memories collide, where conversations with interlocutors both living and dead evolve and thinking during a suspended state becomes provisional and uncertain. This article discusses how to deal with the relations between different cultural perspectives in classrooms, based on a proposal for considering understanding and knowledge as goals of science education, inspired by Dewey’s naturalistic humanism. It thus combines educational and philosophical interests. In educational terms, our concerns relate to how science teachers position themselves in multicultural classrooms. In philosophical terms, we are interested in discussing the relations between belief, understanding, and knowledge under the light of Dewey’s philosophy. We present a synthesis (...) of Dewey’s theory of inquiry through his naturalistic humanism and discuss its implications for the concepts of belief, understanding, and knowledge, as well as for the goals of science teaching. In particular, we highlight problems arising in the context of possible conflicts between scientific and religious claims in the school environment that result from totalitarian positions. We characterize an individual’s position as totalitarian if he or she takes some way of thinking as the only one capable of expressing the truth about all that exists in the world, lacks open-mindedness to understand different interpretative perspectives, and attempts to impose her or his interpretation about the facts to others by violent means or not. From this stance, any other perspective is taken to be false a priori and, accordingly, as a putative target to be suppressed or adapted to the privileged way of thinking. We argue, instead, for a more fallibilist evaluation of our own beliefs and a more respectful appraisal of the diversity of students’ beliefs by both students and teachers. (shrink)

Platão propõe uma concepção ética que maximiza os valores vinculados ao conhecimento e fundamenta uma nova interpretação da existência humana. Procuraremos aqui explicitar e sistematizar no que consiste a postura grega de filosofar, não distante de uma práxis filosófica. (...) Esta menção à busca dialética socrático-platônica confirmará a tese de que o exercício filosófico por excelência, desenvolvido no Fédon, nos conduz a viver melhor e, consequentemente, aponta-nos para uma reflexão distinta sobre a morte. The COVID-19 pandemic has led to the widespread use of online hearings in arbitral proceedings, raising questions about the impact of such proceedings on the determination of facts underlying a dispute. This article explores the extent to which online hearings may hinder arbitrators’ ability to assess witness credibility by drawing upon the cognitive psychology literature on truthfulness determination and lie detection. A survey of the literature suggests that the ability to differentiate truthful from dishonest statements through verbal and nonverbal cues (...) is limited, leading to the notion that observing behaviors like fidgeting, gaze aversion, vocal pitch, or body posture is not particularly relevant in assessing the credibility of a witness. Instead, focusing on the content of what is reported appears to be the most relevant strategy to determine credibility. Therefore, research does not support the idea that face-to-face contact with witnesses is essential to determine the facts of a dispute. Still, the use of in-person hearings may, in practice, continue to be preferred due to underlying cultural assumptions regarding the nature of hearings, the facilitation of communication between parties, counsel, and the tribunal, and a general sense of _Zoom fatigue_. This essay focuses on the similarities between Nietzsche’s and Carnap’s views on metaphysics, without ignoring their obvious differences. The essay argues that Nietzsche and Carnap endorse but interpret differently an overcoming metametaphysics characterized by the conjunction of the following three claims: an overcoming of metaphysics ought to be performed; this overcoming is to be performed by adopting a method of linguistic analysis that is suspicious of the metaphysical use of language and that interprets such use through a different use of (...) language which aims to avoid metaphysics; and this overcoming contributes to the political task of resisting “diseased” metaphysical practices and promoting “healthy” non-metaphysical practices. The personal is not political, even if politics marks it and, in many cases, determines it. Infrapolitics seeks to understand conditions of existence that are not reducible to political life and that exceed any definition of world bound to political determinations. It seeks to mobilize an exteriority without which politics could only be business or administration, that is, oppression. It demands a change in seeing and an everyday practice that subtracts from political totalization in the name of a new production (...) of desire, of a new emancipation, and of a conception of experience that can breach the general captivation of life. In this book, Alberto Moreiras describes a form of thought aiming to provide content for a form of life and to offer a new theoretical practice for concrete existence. The book provides a genealogy of the notion of infrapolitics and places it within contemporary philosophical reflection, examining its deployment in the wake of postphenomenology and deconstruction, Lacanian analysis, the principle of anarchy, and an egalitarian symbolization of social life. In doing so, Moreiras elaborates Infrapolitics as both a general critique of the political apparatus and as an imperative horizon for existential self-understanding. (shrink)

This essay presupposes that Friedrich Nietzsche and Rudolf Carnap champion contrasting reactions to the fact that, throughout history, persons have been engaged in metaphysical disputes. Nietzsche embraces a libertarian reaction that is in agreement with his anti-democratic aristocratic political views, whereas Carnap endorses an egalitarian reaction aligned with his democratic and socialist political views. After characterizing these reactions, the essay argues for two claims. The first claim is that the stated contrasting reactions are to be considered, not only by the (...) few scholars who are interested both in Nietzsche’s and Carnap’s writings, but by a far larger group that includes those who have addressed the continental-analytic gap; those who are concerned with the development of contemporary philosophy; and/or those who are interested in the writings of Michel Foucault, Jacques Derrida, David Lewis and/or Peter van Inwagen. The second claim is that we have to entertain a synthesis of Nietzsche’s libertarian and Carnap’s egalitarian reaction in order to overcome the continental-analytic gap. (shrink)

A partir desta apresentação conclui-se que os tópicos levantados sobre a relevância do dualismo para a filosofia da mente e debate em torno do argumento do zumbi filosófico contribua para a inquietação (...) e investigação sobre a mente. This paper is focused on dismissive metaontological views about ontology. The paper's first section deals with radical dismissivism: a view which I interpret as Carnap's. The second section approaches moderate dismissivism: a view which I interpret as Hirsch's. My first claim is stated in section three: that there are significant differences between the mentioned authors. However, current literature on metaontology, not only does not emphasize such differences, but also insinuates that they do not exist. The authors I have in mind (...) here are Eklund and Bennett. In the fourth section, I compare Carnap's radical dismissivism with Hirsch's moderate dismissivism. My second claim is stated in section five: that Carnap's radical dismissivism is more persuasive than Hirsch's moderate one. (shrink)
